Bio

I began to paint in 2001 following a career in teaching as head of the geography department at Hants West Rural High School, and as a part-time lecturer in geography at Saint Mary’s University, Halifax. During that time I have also taught geography teaching methods at other educational institutions in Nova Scotia including Acadia, Dalhousie, and The Nova Scotia Teacher’s College.
My interest in art extends way back to my grammar school days in England where I was born and educated, and where I experienced the fun of playing with paint. After graduating from Leicester University in 1963, I taught for a couple of years in Ghana, West Africa, and soon after returning to England, decided to emigrate to Canada in 1966. A busy teaching career seemed to leave no time for painting, and only after a hiatus of nearly 50 years did I return to slopping paint on paper and canvas. I paint mainly with acrylics, although I have used water colours, oils and mixed media. I prefer bold, vivid colours especially pthalos. I’m not sure how to describe my style of painting. I think it’s somewhere between abstract impressionism and abstract realism. Whatever it is, and wherever it lies, I enjoy doing it. I hope others enjoy them as well. My paintings have been shown at several recent exhibitions, and examples of my work are held in private collections across Canada, the USA, UK, Honduras, Switzerland, Austria, and Germany
